RPG Ramblings: Loskanon Introducing Our New Columnist, As Well As A New Planet For RPG Fans by Armage "The STATS Man" Bedar 6/13/99 Greetings to all SW-RPG fans out there. Im Armage Bedar, also known as the STATS Man. Yeah, Armage Bedar is a pseudonym but I feel it reflects my online/RPG persona much better than my real name does. At the writing of this column, I have no idea whether Tenandys Qural (aka Reuben Israel Beattie) is ever coming back to write, but if he does, youll have twice the RPG goodness :-) To start out this column, I was struggling to come up with something any player or GM could use and then it hit me. In this edition of RPG Ramblings, I have fleshed out a planet Loskanon which can be integrated into an adventure or campaign with little effort. It comes complete with gamemaster characters, NPCs, native life, technology, and some adventure threads. Gentlebeings, I welcome you to the planet Loskanon - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - LOSKANONAn isolated planet at the edge of the Corporate Sector Authority/Outer Rim Territories border, Loskanon is a temperate planet with rolling hills, wide plains, and small but numerous seas much like Dantooine. It has a yearly cycle of meteor showers, which affect communications and sensor detection for a week during that period. However, the Empire seized control of the planet early on in its history due to its many high-grade quadanite deposits. Quadanite is the ore form of the metal quadanium, a key component in the hulls of TIE starfighters, interceptors, and bombers. A Navy-defended Sienar Fleet Systems Mining Division facility mines from several locations in Loskanons crust. No major or minor trade routes run past the system, and no native sentient species call Loskanon home. The planet does contain several mining complexes, a garrison, and a Standard-plus class spaceport able to support ships up to 600 meters in length. In orbit, a transfer station to process ore sent up from the surface and to send slave labor to the mining complexes below. An old Golan I defense platform and two Corellian corvettes patrol the space surrounding Loskanon. In addition to the orbital force, 36 (half a wing) TIE/ln fighters defend the planet from assault, and 1,000 stormtroopers based in the garrison maintain order in the mine complexes. LoskanonType: TerrestrialTemperature: Temperate Atmosphere: Type I (breathable) Hydrosphere: Moderate Gravity: Standard Terrain: Hills, plains, seas Length of Day: 26 standard hours Length of Year: 302 local days Sentient Species: Humans, alien slaves Starport: Standard-plus class Population: 16,000 (3/4 are slaves) Planet Function: Mining facility Government: Imperial military Tech Level: Space Major Exports: Quadanite ore Major Imports: High tech, mid tech, slave labor Mining Complexes The SFS mining complexes are a combination of slave quarters and ore processing. Slave labor is used in the mines instead of skilled laborers because quadanite mining is backbreaking work but is not mind-intensive. 100 stormtroopers oversee 2,000 slaves in eight mining facilities. Though the chance for success in a revolt is high, few are willing to risk it most of the miners are Eklaad, and they are timid beings. Each facility has a landing field for direct ore pickup from each complex. Orbital Defenses Above the surface of Loskanon, two CEC Corvettes (CRV-189A and B) and a Golan I platform (Redeemer) monitor traffic and defend against incoming assault of which there have been none, incidentally. Crews are starting to get bored from all of the "hurry up and wait" that has been going on for months and months of their tour, and drills have been slowing down lately. (GM note: As a result of this, take 1 pip to 1D off of their MEC, TEC, and DEX skills at your discretion). Even stormtrooper squads are less alert than usual. The orbital transfer station has been processing a steady stream of ore and slaves to and from the surface, and is always at a constant state of readiness. Only SFS-registered craft are allowed in and out of the system, and no out-of-system craft are allowed onto the surface unless they are Imperial military craft. Important Characters Colonel Aryf Mosad Type: Imperial officer Capsule: Colonel Aryf Mosad is the commander of forces on Loskanon. He was once the prominent commander of Thunder Herd walker squadron one of the most decorated walker units in Imperial history. However, details were uncovered (shortly before his scheduled promotion to the rank of major) that his parents were (wrongfully) implicated in an assault on a factory on Corulag. As a result, he was not promoted and shipped off to a boring assignment as commander of a mining facility. He is greatly dissatisfied with the Empire, but he believes that there is no alternative the Rebels are a terrorist rabble in his opinion. Dantar Reynloss, Head of Operations on Loskanon, SFS Mining DivisionType: Corporate bureaucrat Capsule: Dantar Reynloss is an operations officer from SFS Mining Division sent to oversee the mining process on Loskanon. He is bored, but kept occupied with the many day-to-day things that need overseeing. Reynloss is a typical corporate locked into a boring, dead-end job and willing to sacrifice anything to escape. Gribo "One-Eye" CrokarType: Slavemaster Capsule: "One-Eye" Crokar was hired when he responded to a ludicrous offer by SFS Mining to work for them on their Loskanon facility. One-Eye is a professional slaver, capturing aliens and humans alike, and selling them at a high profit. Until SFS offer, he roamed the galaxy, selling to the highest bidders. Now he is stationed among the slave quarters on Loskanon, keeping his both his natural and cybernetic eyes on the slaves. Adventure Threads
