The Phantom Menace Soundtrack

I got the soundtrack this weekend and it's great! It has a lot of new themes and has more choir than the first three films. Some of the themes have a medieval feel to them. Very cool. Here's a track listing and a minute review of each one. WARNING: This review contains major spoilers.

1) Star Wars Main Title and The Arrival at Naboo: What is a Star Wars movie without the infamous main theme? The Arrival at Naboo has a royal feel to it. Very Cool.

2) Duel of the Fates: Well, about every one has heard this one already. Still great. You can take that 5 meg MPEG off your hard drive now.

3) Anakin's Theme: Whew! You will be surprised by this one. It starts out light, then you can definitely start hearing hear the Imperial March.

4) Jar Jar's Introduction and The Swim to Otoh Gunga: Jar Jar's theme is light and airy, and has a clumsy feel to it. Very Fitting. Then when it hits The Swim to Otoh Gunga, it starts having an"awe and wonder" feel with choir voices and such.

5) The Sith Spacecraft and The Droid Battle: The Sith Spacecraft has a severe feel to it with bongo drums and a high pitched noise. It's also the shortest theme. The Droid Battle feels just like a battle theme with drums, and it also has what I call "The Phantom Menace Theme" which you can hear in Duel of the Fates and is present in many of the tracks.

6) The Trip to the Naboo Temple and The Audience with Boss Nass: The Trip to the Naboo Temple has a "Trip" feel to it, "Bum bumbum bum bumbum bum bumbumbum," that's the way it sounds. Very Cool. The Audience with Boss Nass has an alternating theme with a lighter note for Boss Nass and a deeper note for Queen Amidala. A good one.

7) The Arrival at Tatooine and The Flag Parade: Arrival at Tatooine has a "Desert Planet" feel to it. I don't know if it's new or if it was in the original soundtracks. The Flag Parade has a festival feel to it. Sounds like it's for the Trade Federation because it has a theme in it from one of the earlier tracks.

8) He is the Chosen One: This is a slow track with a few notes of the "Force Theme" and Anakin's theme is in it, too. A nice track.

9) Anakin Defeats Sebulba: It starts out slow and it even has the full Force theme, then moves into the arena with a full blast of medieval horns after which the countdown starts. Then it goes into hyperdrive with fast paced music. It has a Ben-Hur chariot race feel to it. The piece ends with a few notes of Anakin's theme. It's one of my favorites.

10) Passage through the Planet Core: It's another "awe and wonder" theme with flutes and such. It also has, I think, a variation of the Force theme. It goes into hyperdrive when they run into the core creatures. Another cool one.

11) Watto's Deal and Kids at Play: These are very light themes and fit their titles well. Watto's deal also has a short piece for when the sandstorm comes, I think. You can also hear Anakin's Theme in these two. The Force Theme makes a cameo as well.

12) Panaka and the Queen’s Protectors: A fast one with the Naboo theme and "The Phantom Menace theme." It slows down a bit when either the destroyer droids or Darth Maul makes an entrance. Another one of my favorites.

13) Queen Amidala and The Naboo Palace: These two are slow and royal sounding with some awe and wonder in them. Strangely you can hear Anakin's theme in them, too. The Naboo theme is also in The Naboo palace.

14) The Droid Invasion and The Appearance of Darth Maul: The Droid Invasion has a very military feel with a lot of drums. It's also the first time you hear the Trade Federation Theme. Yet another of my favorites. The Appearance of Darth Maul has some scary horn sounds in it, and when Darth Sideous appears he has -- guess what -- The Emperor's Theme! Only sharp-eared fans would pick that out. At the end of it you can hear some of the Duel of The Fates, too.

15) Qui-Gon's Noble End: This has some of Duel of the Fates in it. But it gets spooky when you can here some strange sounds, and the choir voices when Qui-Gon gets cut down is VERY spooky. It ends with "The Phantom Menace Theme" and the strange sounds.

16) The High Council Meeting and Qui-Gon's Funeral: High Council Meeting is very nice and slow with some notes from Empire Strikes Back, and you can pick out the Imperial March, too. Qui-Gon's Funeral has some more choir voices and has the Force Theme also.

17) Augie's Great Municipal Band and End Credits: Augie's is at the end and has a very festival sound along with a kids’ choir. Then it has the infamous end credits music with Duel of The Fates and Anakin's Theme.

Overall this is a great soundtrack and fits the movie well. Make sure you click onto our web store and get it. It's well worth it.
