A review of the Episode II full teaser trailer - "Forbidden Love"

Minor spoilers included

By now, even it you're doing you're utmost to avoid spoilers, everyone pretty much knows that Episode II is the film where Padmé discovers that Anakin isn't a "funny little boy" anymore. In fact, he's quite a temperamental hottie, if I say so myself.

In keeping with the thematic schemes of the two previous trailers, "Forbidden Love" has a focus of its own -- the budding love story between Anakin and Padmé. While he is on a mission to protect the Senator from additional assassination attempts, the close proximity they share leads to the inevitable falling in love. Most of the scenes we're treated to show us Anakin and Padmé together, but the end is another blurring of action scenes -- portents of things to come.

Apparently, Anakin is staying with Padmé on Naboo, and the backgrounds are simply gorgeous. We see the couple strolling on a lake-front terrace, picnicking in a meadow, and discussing their future in a room lit only by the light of the fireplace. Very nice.

Major dialogue hints allude to a provision that the Jedi are not allowed to love, which would explain why potential Jedi are taken from their families when very young, before they can form attachments to family members. In another scene, Anakin is raging about Obi-Wan holding him back -- leading one to recall Yoda's observation of Luke in "The Empire Strikes Back" -- "Much anger in him. Like his father." A scene showing Anakin riding on a speeder bike on Tatooine is accompanied by his voice saying: "I will be the most powerful Jedi ever." That was as spine-chilling as Palpatine's line in Episode I: "We will watch your career with interest, young Skywalker."

An informal survey taken while watching this trailer with some of my office mates provided an outfit count for Padmé of thirteen. I'd better be getting thirteen Padmé action figures out of this.

Overall, this was definitely the best of the three teasers. And if only because of the opening scene -- Anakin standing on a portico with his back to the camera, an open-legged stance with his hands clasped behind his back. I've seen him standing like this before -- on the bridge of the Executor.

(Jody Reeves has not yet reached trailer saturation. Though when watching the third one at home, her mom heard the music and asked if there was a kissing scene.)
