Echo Station: Exploring Star Wars Beyond The Daily News

The Staff Of Echo Station

David Phillips - Supervising Webmaster and Programmer
The fact that Dave lists Echo Station on his resume really says it all. Having chartered the course which has brought Echo Station to be one of the more popular Star Wars websites today, Dave is the technical know-how and behind-the-scenes deal maker that has brought the "cool" features to Echo like the message boards, chat server, free email system and more. Dave now focuses most of his time on building newer, cooler, bigger and better gadgets for the site in order to keep people coming back for more as time goes by. You can occassionally find him chatting on the IRC server under the easily identifiable nickname echo_dave...usually while there's some deadline brewing that he's blatantly ignoring in order to waste time chatting and cracking jokes. His love of Star Wars is exceeded only by his passions for his computers, a good microbrew, the internet, and books, and not always in the same order. :-)

Toryn Farr - E-magazine Editor, Assistant Webmaster, and Amanuensis
During the few minutes per day her child is at school, Toryn attempts to run an internet design business and write fantasy fiction. You can find her doing things like writing exhaustive book reviews, editing submissions, helping format articles, and more. And yes, she does like Jar Jar. No one knows why.

Gini Judd - E-magazine Editor and Contributor
Gini moved to Cleveland with her husband, the notorious Ferrett, to continue her career as a paralegal and go to law school. This is why the Echo Station people never see her anymore. We let her stay on the bio page because we feel sorry for her -- and because back when Echo was rudderless and in danger of sinking she stepped in and breathed new hope into the emag, inspiring Dave to stay with it and turn it into what it is today. It's a karmic debt that we're happy to pay. Besides, she's also a veteren from the CompuServe Star Wars forum, where Echo Station originated, and knows where the bodies are buried...

Jody Reeves - Feature/Gaming Columnist
Jody is a native of the San Francisco Bay Area. She lived for twelve years near Washington DC, spending most of that time on the staff of US Senator Dianne Feinstein. Jody now lives in Las Vegas, splitting her time between her Xbox, PlayStation 2 and online Star Wars roleplaying boards. She also hails from Echo's days at CompuServe.

Chad Clark - Comics Columnist
Chad's life can be boiled down into simple facts - 3 states, 4 computers, 5 cars, 8 jobs and one obsession: Star Wars. When not running the pilot-themed website DownTime the pilots lounge, Chad enlightens the masses of Echo Station with his infrequent columns reviewing SW periodicals and trade paperbacks.

Scott Schimmels - Gaming Columnist and Technical Aviation/Aerospace Commentator
Scott Schimmels grew up near the Twin Cities in Minnesota when "Star Wars A New Hope" was released. After spending 12+ years in the Air Force as an engineer (not counting the time he was incarcerated at the Aluminum Zoo a.k.a. the AF Academy), Scott now resides in Dayton, OH working for UDRI (that's Docter Schimmels to you!) with his wife and three children. In 1996, Scott came across a copy of X-Wing Collector's CD-Rom and realized his dream of joining the Rebels in their fight for freedom. He soon found out the existence of on-line squadrons on the newly formed World Wide Web. Dreaming of becoming a member of CRS Liberty's Rogue squadron, Scott applied to a relatively new squadron, Kalidor, and was brought into the Black Ops world. He's been hooked ever since. He's currently the Tactical Officer - which means he creates and edits new missions for X-Wing and X-Wing vs TIE Fighter that his squadron flies on a monthly to bi-monthly basis, and then evaluates each pilot's performance. As a result, he has learned more about XWCD and XvT - to include being involved with the OPT Project and Star Wars Modeling Association. When Kalidor joined the Echo Station team, Scott and his fellow Kalidors became a resource for online gaming.

Riptor
- IRC Admin/Chat Monitor
Riptor can be seen on the Echo Station chat server almost endlessly, sparing our chatters the disruptive characters that happen to wander into our rooms.  Since our chat rooms have a "play nice/talk nice" policy, Riptor certainly has his work cut out for him.  Don't let the rumor get around, but he's actually a really nice guy, even if he does have to play "Bad Cop Op".
Undercover Agent:
Hidden Identity
Ann McMeekin - Assistant Webmaster
Logging in all the way from Scotland, Ann has changed from being someone that everyone doubted even existed back on CompuServe due to her never-ending "lurker mode", to being one of the most vocal participants in events to date.  Ann has contributed much to Echo over the years including music, graphics, and her ever-needed assistance with site, keeping things on track and getting completed.  Ann's graphical talents can be seen on her website, and she can be found in various threads around the message boards.

Jeff Carter - Interviewer / Columnist
Heartthrob, maverick, innovator, intellectual, philosopher, visionary … None of these words has anything to do with Jeff, now a 28-year-old video editor / news photographer for a local television station somewhere in Massachusetts. Jeff has spent the past few years half-heartedly defending Episode One and resting far too comfortably on the laurels he received from his Drew Struzan and Timothy Zahn interviews. Now he’s back on the Star Wars scene voicing his opinion with “This Is Not The Column You’re Looking For,” every week at Echo Station.
